Lucky Pasengers etc

The jet at Heathrow had a lucky landing. A British Airways Boeing 777 had a lucky escape when its engines failed, on landing. The captain and his flight crew brought it down with hardly anyone being injured. A passenger who was interviewed said it was just like a bad landing. If you don't like flying, well thats enough to put you off for ever. If you don't have a God, then get one.

India appear to have the upper hand against Australia in the Test Match. Lets hope they wind, and just keep those Aussies down a peg or two. Looks RP Singh got amongst the wickets.

The weather in England is still atrocious, with alot of rain descending, and alot of the country worried about flooding again. The county ground at Worcester is under water again. They missed most of last cricket season there, lets hope they get to play this year.

Gordon Brown our leader has gone to China on a trade mission. Maybe he can persuade them to take some of our exports. we have enough of theirs.

Saw Jamie Oliver on TV last night. His programme was very interesting promoting freedom chickens as opposed to battery grown chickens. I must admit that it has given me food for thought, pardon the pun. He seems to be trying to do more than the Government to encourage healthy eating. Good on yer Jamie.

I Got it Wrong

Yes, Andy Murray failed in the 1st round of the Australian Open, so no winner. I made a big faux pas in predicting a possible winner.

At the Diana inquest, it appears her ex lawyer says the Queen told Diana she would abdicate in 1996 in favour of Prince Charles. I find that highly unlikely. It is a good job she didn't abdicate, as I think that would have harmed the monarchy irrepairably. The whole inquest seems to rest alot on hearsay evidence and speculation.

I see some areas of england are getting floods again, or gearing upto that event, especially places like Tewkesbury, and others hit previously. I really feel for those people. It must be heart breaking to endure it once, but several times.

The teachers have been given a 2.4% pay rise, and told what they will get for the next three years. It will be interesting to see what the Unions say and do.

finally the weather on my day off in Yorkshire is terrible. It has rained all morning, but seems to have cleared for now. I have had an exciting day so far, taken car for MOT, been to Supermarket, etc (yawn, yawn).

Scandals and things

The New Hampshire count has been contested. One of Hilary Clintons rivals has claimed hackers may have got into the electoral counting machine, and altered the figures, bearing in mind the exit polls giving Obama such a big lead. Good to see the USA has problems with its politicians just like the UK.

Talking of which Peter Hain has still got alot of explaining to do. Gordon Brown has full confidence in him, if that were football, it means he will be sacked within a month.

Sam Allardyce has left Newcastle United AFC. It seems the Magpies want instant success, but the job seems to be a bit of a poison chalice. Harry Redknap did the right thing staying at Portsmouth.

The Australian Tennis Open starts today I think. maybe wwe have our best chance of a victory with Andy Murray. He seems to have that little bit extra that Tiger (really) Tim Henman lacked. He's only young and has a few events under his hat, lets hope a top one will not elude him.

Closer to home Jill is back at work, and I am day off, but the weather is poor again. Our youngest lad Jordan has started a three week worjk placement with BBC Radio Manchester, he stayin with his older brother Chris in Manchester.

Newsy Bits and Things.

Hilary Clinton fought back, and took the New Hampshire caucus. She only just pipped Barack Obama though. Next month should be the big deciders, I think 22 states votes on the same day. A bit different to our elections in Britain.

Gerry and Kate McCann, Madelaine's parents are taking about making a docu film about her disappearence in Portugal. A big mistake, they will loose the publics sympathy completely if they do. It seems a strange course of action to consider.

Jeff Stewart, the actor who plays Reg Hollis in the Bill on TV is alleged to have slit his wrists after being told he is being written out of the show. A shame as I like old Reg, probably because he was different. In real life after seving so long, most Police Officers can't wait to leave the job. Isn't TV so unlike the real life.

Peter Hain, the govenment Minister has to try and explain how £100,000 of donations slipped the net in his bid to be Deputy Prime Minister. Probably say it was an admin error, from a man who helps to run the country. Its like Gordon Brown stating the other day he was not an accountant, if that is the case what qualified him to be Chancellor of the Exchequer, and run the finances of this country. What a state this country is in. Now he has taken to playing celebrity, inviting David Beckham to no 10. What will he contribute to the running of the nation, Education Minister or something.

Catch Up

Well I haven't written for a week as my wife Jill has been poorly with sickness and upset stomach.

Our youngest son Jordan, and his girlfriend Yuriko went back to London on sunday. He is back again this sunday as he is going to have a 3 week attachment with BBC radio Manchester newsroom.

On Sat 4th went to see the stage show of Dads Army, at the Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays. This was a Xmas present from my eldest son Chris and his partner Mark. It was a really good evening, and the cast did four episodes. It was very true to the TV episodes.

Now I have a heavy cold, it doesn't rain, but it pours.

The New Year

Happy New Year everybody.

I spent New Years Eve at a prty in shelley Village Hall with my wife, mother in law , her partner and about 80 other villagers. A good time was had by all.

The news from kenya is still not good with over 300 dead, and the military and police on the streets in force.

In the US, I see the Iowa caucus went ahead. Barack Obama won the Iowa Democrat nomination with Hilary Clinton in third, and Mike Huckabee getting the Republican nomination. There is still along way to go, but I think the Democratic result was a bit of suprise to some.

Alot of Hospitals in the UK have closed wards due to a sickness bug going the rounds. Nearly 100 wards have been closed.

Britney Spears has been taken away on a stretcher after police were called to her home following a child custody arguement. How the mighty fall (or think they are mighty). its about time she got herself back on track.
